It’s been more than a year since I’ve been to Coney Island. Being the last Saturday before Labor Day, I thought what better day to pay a visit?
Today I did a few unique things.
One, I had my first ever Nathan’s hot dog (approaching two years in the city, can you believe that?). Last time at Coney Island, I opted for pizza.
So that was good, I enjoyed it. Then I decided to walk the boardwalk.
It’s IHOP free pancake day! Here’s my meal at the only IHOP in Brooklyn.

I ventured to Williamsburg today for the first time ever, a neighborhood in Brooklyn I’ve heard many things about since moving to New York last December and where some friends live.
It was to go to this place called Pies ‘n’ Thighs that I found on Yelp while looking for places that have chicken pot pie to satisfy a craving. Turns out, when I got there, they weren’t serving pot pies today. But they did have their specialty of chicken, a biscuit and mac ‘n’ cheese, so I went with that. It was good! And a slice of banana creme pie for dessert. All in all, not a lost trip.
Tonight I walked across the Brooklyn Bridge for the first time ever, starting in Manhattan and ending with some Grimaldi’s Pizza in Brooklyn. It was a refreshing walk with a cool September breeze. It was also my first time at Grimaldi’s, and despite a long wait, the pizza was excellent!

During lunch hour today, I stumbled upon the San Gennaro Italian Festival. It was taking place in Little Italy just a few blocks from the HuffPost Office. I walked around for a bit and grabbed a few slices of pizza from Pomodoro’s.
I also overheard this conversation:
Woman 1: Why is everything in Christmas colors?
Woman 2: Those are the colors of Italy.
Woman 1: Did Christmas colors come from Italy?
The women were older and had a Southern accent, so clearly they were from out of town. I laughed and thought, only in America would you hear a conversation like this.
