I had so much fun today helping with HuffPost’s coverage of this breaking news story, live blogging the NASA announcement as it happened with my colleague Nick Graham. This is why I got into journalism, stories like this, and the thrill of following developments and breaking down what they mean for others on the fly, in real-time.
One of the best parts? The human side: Tonight I chatted briefly by phone with British cosmologist and astrobiologist Paul Davies, part of the team who made this discovery; he could hardly contain his excitement. I was doing some follow-up research and will try to incorporate a few quotes from him into our coverage. After I asked a series of questions, I congratulated him and his team and said they must be so excited. He said it was an understatement. Of course. It’s an interview I probably won’t ever forget.
